Needles: | US size 10 1/2, (size 6 mm). | ||||
Odds ans Ends: | Large yarn needle. Spare knitting needle or yarn holder. | ||||
Gauge: | Red Heart - 2 1/2 sts per inch (1 st per cm) Lion Brand - 3 sts per inch (3 sts per 2.5 cm). |

The Puppies are made in 5 pieces as seen in illustration.
The stitch for body and ears are seed (abbrevated seed). There is no difference between right and wrong side for body and ears. The insert is knit in stockinet (abbreviated St st). The finishing is worked with over-cast sts (no seam). |

CO 26 sts. Seed until work measures 6 inches (15 cm). Next row: Work 13 sts of seed, save to spare needle or yarn holder. Upper half of puppet: | |||||

CO 5 sts. Work 3 rows of St st, starting with P. Next row, increase row: K1, Kinc, K to last 2 sts, Kinc, K1. Work 3 rows of St st. Repeat last 4 rows until there are 13 sts on ndl. Work 5 rows of St st. |
FINISHING BODY with INSERT: | ||
Sew up side of body until work was split.
Fold insert in half and pin center and tops as illustrated on both insert and body. Fold upper tip slightly over insert. Use MC yarn tails to sew insert into work while easing the body part to insert. Embroider eyes and nose with backstitches, see ears. Run all other tails into work. |
EARS: | ||
CO 11 sts. Work seed until work measures 4 to 5 inches (10 to 12 cm) or as long as you like. Cut yarn and thread tail through the sts. Draw up tight to gather work. Stitch through sts again to secure gathering. Secure tail from start into work. Sew ears onto work as illustrated. |
