Subj: Knit: neck scarf (ascot type) Date: 98-01-26 23:16:20 EST From: RuthKent@AOL.Com Sender: Knit-Sender@bolis.com To: knit@bolis.com Cindy asked for a "pattern for a small neck scarf that is worn close to the neck and allows for the two ends of the scarf to be placed one over the other. It also has two slits so that the wearer may slip one scarf end into the other thereby insuring a warm snug fit." Here's a pattern my mother used in the early '40s. I thought others might also like it. I'm sure it's out of copyright, if there ever was one. using baby yarn and # 2 needles, cast on 3 sts. Row 1: Increase one stitch in first st., K to end. Row 2: K to last st. and inc. 1 st (all increases and decreases are on same edge) Repeat rows 1 & 2 unti you have 36 sts. Put every other stitch on a stitch holder -- slipping other stitches to needle. Then K2,P2 for 20 rows -- put on stitch holder. Slip other stitches from holder and K2, P2 for 20 rows. Return all stitches to needle in original order. Knit for 15 inches. Then: K, decreasing 1 st every row on the same edge as increases, unti 1 st remains. End off. The section with the stitch holders produces the "slot" thru which you insert one end of the scarf to snug it close to your neck. Same size needles. Comes out fine.
