Subj: KNIT: KNIT - Uncle!!! Date: 98-02-22 20:23:57 EST From: lindajeffandchris@email.msn.com (Jeff Hoerter) Sender: Knit-Sender@bolis.com To: KNIT@bolis.com My post to the list last week said, in part, that I would never be convinced to knit socks. My goodness, what a conversation starter! I got one message from Witt (in Washington DC) saying that she thought that my remark would be seen as a challenge by the entire list to get me knitting socks. Wow, was she right! I have gotten so many encouraging responses from listers. Ellen Upp is the lister who finally pushed me over the edge - she wrote that she makes socks for her nephew to wear with his Birkenstock sandals. The light bulb went on...we encountered blister problems with sandals last year and I can see the need for jazzy socks, possibly...well, as many kind listers pointed out...NEVER SAY NEVER! Several listers wanted the Child's Garter Stitch BowTie Scarf (the actual subject of my post). I don't know who posted it originally but I can take no credit - just don't know who to give it to. I hope I'm not going to be violating a rule, but I thought I would post it in case anyone else wants it. Child's Garter Stitch Bow Tie Scarf Cast on 20 stitches using worsted weight on #8 needles. Knit in garter stitch for 24 rows. *Knit 1 stitch, put 1 stitch on holder, across. Knit the 10 stitches on the needle for 10 rows, put on holder. Put the stitches from the 1st holder on a needle, knit for 10 rows. Join by: Knit 1 st from needle, knit 1 st from holder, across (20 stitches again)* Continue in garter stitch until long enough to fit around child's neck. (about 12 inches between the loops) Repeat from * to * Knit in garter stitch for 24 rows. Bind off. What you get is a shortish scarf with a, sort of, narrow loop a couple of inches from each end. To wear it, bring the ends to the front and poke one end through the opposite loop and puff it out to look like a bow tie. Happy knitting, all. Linda White Plains, NY
