PRODIGY(R) interactive personal service 09/19/96 9:07 PM Here's my contribution to the star ornament category. STAR PATTERN: Sport weight yarn; size 2 needles (hush, now ; it takes less than 30 minutes to make one and those of you who do not like small needles can manage them for 30 minutes surely ). Cast on 4 sts. R1: K2, yarn over needle twice, K2 (6 sts). R2: P2, K1 in next YO, P1 in next YO, P2 (6 sts). R3: Knit all sts R4: Purl all sts R5: K2, yarn over needle twice, K2 tog, yarn over needle twice, K2 (9 sts). R6: P2, K1 in next YO, P1 in next YO, K1 K1 in next YO, P1 in next YO, P2 (9 sts). R7: Knit all sts R8: Bind off (in purl) 5 sts (4 sts left). Repeat 8 rows until you have five points, binding off all 9 sts on the 5th point. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-8 inch tail. Pull through last stitch to anchor. Thread a tapestry needle with the tail, and beginning at the CAST ON edge, pull thread through all stitches on the straight edge of the strip, pulling star into a circle. Whip 3 or 4 sts of the cast on edge to the bound off edge to neaten up the V between the first and last points. Consider making out of novelty yarn such as a chenille, or holding a carry strand of a metallic along with a basic white, or using that varigated stuff (although I found with the varigated green & white chenille I used that the lace holes don't show up as well with varigated. Could also be made with 2 or 3 strands of knit-cro-sheen held together in the silver, or gold. Depending on YOUR guage, needles, firmness of yarn, etc., these stars are from 1-1/2" to 3" point to point. PRODIGY(R) interactive personal service 09/19/96 9:07 PM
