The Rat Snuggie
Created April 4, 2009

This cute little pouch is a modification of Knitty Knotty’s Tri-Color Mini Tote (http://knitty-knotty.blogspot.com)

I got a wonderful gerbil pouch from a craft swap. I am currently in a Rodent Craft Swap and making items for cute little rats. I came up with this snuggie for rats that loveto cuddle with their owners. Pictures coming soon

Materials:  3 strand of soft worsted weight yarn (held together) with Size US #13 (yes 13) needles. Yarn Needle for Weaving the end in.  Size 9 US needles for making strap.

Stitches Used:
Cast On (CO)
Knit (K)
Purl (P)
Yarn Over (YO)
Stockinette (STST) : Row 1: K all. Row 2: P all. Repeat 1 and 2 for pattern
Seed (Seed St) - Row 1: K1, P1, repeat. Row 2: P1, K1, repeat. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern
Bind Off (BO)

Instructions:
CO 30 sts
K 5 Rows
STST 30 rows beginning with K row.
Seed St for 6 rows
STST 30 rows beginning with K row.
Knit 5 Rows.
BO all Stitches.

Strap for Snuggie:
Use sized 9 needles.
CO 7 stitches using 2 strands of yarn.
Work in Seed St until length desired.

I used a scrap piece of yarn to measure how long I want to the strap to be. I wanted the snuggie to be over the stomach and used that measurement. It can vary on how long you want it to be. Same as pouch. You can even make the strap detachable if you like. Just make a buttonhole at each end while knitting the strap. To make a buttonhole just do a YO then a K2 together to make the hole.

Finishing:
Fold in half inside out and seam up left and right sides of snuggie/bag. Attach new yarn or use tail ends to weave in. Attach the strap ends to each side and sew them on.
