Baby Gift Set

This was recovered from the internet archive from a site that no longer exists on July 15, 2011

Original website: http://knitlist.com/96gift/giftbabystuff.htm

The sample was knit using worsted weight yarn and 5.5mm needles to a gauge of 17sts to 10cm over st st and will fit a newborn baby (keeping in mind that this is a coat meant to go over other clothing). See below for actual measurements at different gauges.

Coat

Materials:
Worsted or sport weight yarn.
US #10 and 6 needles

Gauge:
Note : This pattern did not have gauge stated. Estimates below are the actual measurement of the cast on edge of the coat, not chest size. For chest measurement subtract 2-3 inches, depending on how much ease you like in baby coats.

  • If you work to a gauge of 20sts to 4 inches the coat will measure 18 inches around. Suitable for preemies if you make it a bit shorter than in the pattern.
  • If you work at a gauge of 18sts to 4 inches  (I'm assuming this is the correct gauge considering these are meant for babies but I'd get this gauge with 5.5mm needles and worsted weight yarn. IMHO sport weight wouldn't work very well) the coat will measure 20 inches around
  • If you work at a gauge of 16sts to 4 inches coat will measure 22.5 inches around
